What is the correct color for a '50 GMC pickup 248 motor? This motor's been rebuilt and it looks Chevrolet Orange to me.

Don't listen to GL, he's got "Bowtie Brain" disease.

The correct engine color is GMC RED; not orange, not blue, not gray, not black, not green, but GMC red.

GMC engine red has been color matched as follows:
Dupont Nason Full Thane 2K Urethane
54701BD
Code 514
Color: Crimson Red
General Motors Truck

I could paint it green and nickname it the "Jade Grenade",but my customer might not be impressed.
By the way,you must be the "Proffit" that other forum regulars referred to last fall.I asked about replacing a 248 with a Chevy 235.Those guys said that was 'purt near a hang'in offense in yer book!

Avacado...isn't that an armored animal from the southwest? Oh no wait, it's a town in Colorado...right?

I believe that avacado stayed in there until '46 on GMC engines but I am not certain.

GMC TRUCK engines (*zing*) were red beginning in '49 and there is much conjecture about the '47-'48 engines with some people landing on the black side of the argument, and some landing on the dark green side of the argument. I stand firmly in the mouth agape dumb look side of the argument.

KenMt,
You should be able to go to any automotive paint store and have them put the GMC red into a rattle can for you. They have new empty rattle cans that they charge with whatever color you need. I used several cans for my engine because the paint will need about 2-3 coats so that all the high spots in the casting will get covered.

KenMt,
Here are some pics of what the color looks like on an engine:

http://community.webshots.com/user/52gmc6

The shots of the engine in the truck look more pink than they really are. It must have been the lighting and camera combination. It really is a good color and I thank "53 4 me" for sharing the color number with me for my engine. cool

My engine is painted the color that Kook posted. I took his valve cover ( with original paint ) to the auto body supply to have the color matched ..

Click there KenMt to see if you like the color before you dive in..
