Hey Guys,
I pulled the frt.wheel cyls off my 52 6100 2ton and can't find a replacement.
The cyl I pulled off is 1 1/8 Delco Moraine, part no.5453781 embossed in the casting. These are the style with the gear type cover and adj. screw, which in Carters catalog are Huck style.
I checked with Carters Tech. Dept and found that their ME130 is a Huck style but it is 1 1/4.
They list a MEB613 for my truck but it's 1 in.

The local parts vendors I checked with don't have info in their books to indicate size or style...just numbers.

So fello Bolters, does anyone know what size cyl belongs on this truck, cause I was thinking maybe somewhere in this trucks history somebody changed something.
Dan

Hy glasman, my brake catalog lists 1950 as the last year for the 11/4" fronts with the adjustment wheels on the end, the 1951 to early 54 use a 1" with no adjusters Raybestos WC14497. Is your backing plate equipped with the adjustment slots for the wheel cylinders you removed? If it does, maybe someone replaced the whole front axle with a different one. My catalog crosses 5453781 into WC14481 which is a 13/8"bore cylinder, hope that helps.

3B,
The backing plate has the two slots for adj. the wheel cyl. screws.
The truck is so stock looking, like nothing is changed or messed with, which is not often seen on something this old. It's still got the original style rad hose clamps, maybe the hose also....thats hard to believe.
With that thought it's hard to imagine an axle change along with the 50 years of grease and dirt built up on it.
In the Shop Manual it says 48-51, 1, 1 1/2, & 2 ton use the type that are adj.at each end. The 52 supplement in the back of the manual does not mention a change on the front.
I was thinking that maybe the 1 1/4 would work and was wondering what was on other 2 ton trucks.

My book shows for 1951-52, casting number 5453781 as a 1 3/8" wheel cylinder with a part number of 5453780. Im gonna look through some of my other manuals as it doesnt show whether it has hucks for the front or bendix. The picture it shows of the fronts are all huck style for the bigger trucks while the rear shows 2 cylinders for each side with bendix type.

Jeff,
After reading what you said I went out to the shop and measured the wheel cyl.and I'm feeling a little dumb right now, because it measures 1 3/8.
The embossed number on the casting was hard to see and I should have done what I just did. Thanks for looking that up.
Guess I should do as carpenters do.....measure twice, cut once !!
I should be able to locate 1 3/8 in cylinders as Carter has them listed in his catalog.

If you look at the bottom of page 5-36 of the shop manual you will see listed 1 3/8" front and 1 1/2" rear for the 1 1/2 to 2 Ton brakes. The master should be 1 1/4 and the brakes should be Huck style.

I'm in the process of a complete rebuild of 2 ton brakes...... the front cylinders are an issue foryou must have original ones the newer ones have the hole where the brake line attaches straight out so the brake hose hit the king pins. I had a machine shop hone out the orignials w/a rebuild kit wait till you get to the back........be careful of the springs different colors go in different holes the originals have donut type gaskets/seals not cup type.....

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I'm having a similar issue with my 6400...the right front wheel cylinder I'm replacing has "5453781" on the casting, and after seeing Rustednuts' response on here, saying the casting number is 5453781, but the whole unit part number is 5453780, I'm still at a loss. Chevs of the 40s shows 5453780, but the brake line entry port is angled out on theirs, whereas mine comes straight out of the casting. Any advice?
Thanks!

The casting and part # has traditionally been different by one, such as the 80 and 81. this system is all over the vehicle. Hope this helps.

Google "Chevrolet 1929-1957 Master Parts Catalog", and you'll see a part number change, somewhere around 1951, if I remember correctly.

Jim has them listed as part #'s me131 and a 1 ton part. Is this correct and if so is the truck a 1 ton or two ton? I'm working on a 351 gmc and the same front cylinder isue
