I went and picked up one of each today, and i'm not sure which one is supposed to be used. many thanks, David

Is it supposed to be a round, or a square shaped O ring for the 235? The guy at the auto parts store said the paper gasket is supposed to go between the distributor, and the engine block. He ran some different numbers on some other inlines from the early to mid 60's GM vehicles, and one of them was the paper gasket, but he said he's not sure it's for a 235. David

The grooves on the lower distributer body act as an oil dam. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 2,773 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 2,773 | With all of the Chevy sixes that I've had, I've never used a gasket, and never had a problem with oil leakage out the shaft.

Thanks. I thought I had entered the twilight zone (and I was going to look for o-rings tomorrow). I have never used or seen an o-ring or paper gasket on any 216/235/261 distributor (but I was starting to believe they we missing due to wear).

When I pulled the old distibutor out of the 235, it had a rubber O ring on it. The old distributor came out pretty easy, and the replacement ditributor went in just as easy. I didn't put the O ring on when I installed the replacement. David
