I have stock 3/4 ton, 8 lug split rims. I've been told they're dangerous and should replaced them because many tire shops won't mount tires on that style rim anymore.

What do you recommend as a replacement that looks as stock as possible? What stock-looking hubcaps can be used with a one-piece rim?

Thanks!

I have a set of 92 rims and hub caps on my 63 C20. They are 16 x 6.5, no problems with rubbing any were. I wish they were wider.

I would use standard 16 inch rims. It gets rid of those split rims. Its true that most shops won't change as before. Usually there was no problem but they could come apart especially when they were changing the tire off the rim and putting on a new one. Some people have been injured seriously and a couple were killed from them blowing apart. I would put on 235.85 R 16 tires. Wide ones use more gas and will hydro plane easier than narrow tires. Also they are better in snow as there is less tire surface to slide on. I would recommend BFG All Terrains which is what I have. They wear very well and are quiet. Great traction too! Plus they have a 3 ply sidewall which makes it harder to get a rock or stick through the side of your tire. Most are only two ply sidewall. I hope this helps.
