Im looking for ideas for door mirrors on my 51 I would go with the stock mirrors but there not Symmetrical, I got a set off of a 1980 Camaro that I thought would work but I wouldn't be able to open my vent windows without hitting them. I found a set off of a 1965 Chevy II that I think will work but before I get them I was wondering what else might work...Any Ideas ??

There's always the ones that mount at the top of the door. I'm probably not explaining it right (too early - need coffee). Either way, they kinda curve downwards, so that you can see out of them.

I got a set of those But there so small (3") that you really cant see anything out of them and they mess up the paint and door rubber, outside of looking kinda cool there not much good.
I was thinking about something like this maybe... but Im not sure

Hey those are nice and they look like they would work. Thanks for the info on the others not working well. They were one of my options, but now I know that they're just for astetics. I think you'd have to have one in your hand so that you can tell if you'll be able to see enough with them.

the little round ones that go on "top" of the door are called Peep mirrors. You can get them bigger than 3". Most I've seen are 4 or 5". I use the 4" on my 37. I like them out of the way!

I know what you mean about the mirrors. I don't really care that they are not symetrical, but I have a panel, which has a larger blind spot than the pickups. Some people have went with the west coast mirrors but that gives a way different look. I'm not really sure yet what I will do.

Vision View sells convex round mirrors from 5" to 8.5" diameters in black and stainless steel. The black ones (5") are similar to original mirrors and the 6" look original but are 1/3 larger viewing area.

I like these mirrors so much, I use the convex mirror on both sides to increase viewing angles/range. "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear"

Of course, these mirrors would need to be used with the original "asymmetrical" mirror arms, if you want to mount them on the cowl and not hit the vent window. The post hole on the original arm has to drilled to a little larger diameter.

Todd: Check this out: here I found this truck at a show in Parowan last fall. The kid doing the work had some interesting ideas for his Resto-Rod. Hope you can see the mirrors OK.

I had an extra set of rectangular 1968 Camaro/Firebird mirrors that I had forgotten I bought years ago. They're brand new. I already replaced my Firebird mirrors, so I decided to try to use this on my AD truck. If I put them on the doors, I'll mount them just behind the vent windows. But I might look at maybe mounting them on the body just in front of the doors, so that everytime I slam the door, I don't change my mirror setting.

Anyway, something like that looks nice and is symmetrical, if you need another idea. Unfortunately, this is a really nasty winter, and I am not so patiently waiting for spring to do a lot of this tinkering.

stock mirrors from a 74 chevy pickup are low profile and can be mounted where they are useful and won't mess up your wing. I was going to put them on my 54 - just haven't done it yet. I have two sets of peep mirrors and still can't get one mounted on the drivers side that can be viewed from the drivers seat.

Thanks for the replies ! The more I see them Im kinda leaning toward something like this
If you look real hard you can see the peep mirrors on my 51 and I like the way they look but I cant seem to adjust the passenger side enough to see anything

Todd

What's wrong with running the stock truck mirrors with a twist? My old Georgia farm truck still had the original driver's side mirror and I added the "strange" looking mount to the pass side.
It turned out to be totally worthless until I added the large convex "stick-on" over the original flat mirror surface. The mounting hole reinforcement was already installed under the cowl....just drilled the holes out and now I've got a pass side mirror that is far more useful than the mirrors on any of my late model vehicles. With this mirror added, there is NO blind spot in a 5 window pickup. Makes driving (and backing) that much more enjoyable.

I just bought a set of 4" swan neck mirrors I really liked the way they looked on this truck we seen at a local car/truck show.
I think they'll work out good and they kinda look like the stock mirrors AND there Symmetrical grin

I replaced the west coast mirrors with the long arm big bolt originial mirrors. It is hard to see all around the rig but I like the original much better. I just have to be careful driving it.

I found that with the original (optional) passenger-side mirror with the convex center added, that when looking straight ahead I would pick up vehicles in my blind spot with my peripheral vision. Combine that with the 5 window cab and you've got a better picture of what's going on around you than with the majority of new vehicles. It may look a little strange all twisted up, but it sure helps in heavy traffic. Haven't run over a Mitsubishi since I put it on......on the passengers side.

hey Glenn, welcome to the garage .... consider getting some of the 5x7 rectangular mirrors available from most vendors or local parts chains, and add a round 2 or 3" convex 'blind spot' mirror in the lower corner - works great, problem solved

I went for the look, bent a driver's side post and put a 5x7 mirror on it last fall. I still have a little bending to do.

I can't see the mirror glass from the driver's seat but with the 5-window, I have pretty good visibility without it. The only time I might want it is to see the parking line when backing up to park.

I'm trying the same thing. I bought two convex peeps and have mounted one on the passenger door so I can see my blind spot.
I'll mount the driver's mirror in a few days, no need to rush.

The right one's not perfect but it'll do,i'll suffer it in favour of symmetry.

Plus yours is the 5 window cab,it's also unlikely our trucks will ever be loaded to the gunwales with stuff so at least we can look out the back window(s) if need be.

No blind spots with convex mirrors on both sides: WARNING objects in mirror are closer than they appear!. 5" convex mirrors are fine for me.
