Does anyone know if the gauges are the same from 1953 to the 1954 pickups? I need a fuel gauge but I don't know if they are the same on all years? I know that mine (1954) sit back further than the earlier years.

The 1954 Chevrolet truck dash gauges are completely different from 1953 truck gauges.

I understand that the gauge cluster is different but are the gauges inside different?

Each and every gauge is completely different; and yes, the gauge clusters are also completely different.

Oddly, Jim Carter Antique Truck Parts does not carry 54/55 fuel gauges

Yes they are different and somewhat hard to find. A few of the vendors carry them. You can also have yours rebuilt but not cheap! The sending unit is different as well.

About $50 plus shipping at the links above. They show up used and NOS on eBay every so often (monthly). I would be careful buying a used one, unless it is guaranteed to work (many used ones from a parted-out truck might have been burned out over the years - 12v conversions seem to be the likely culprit).
