I just bought a 1955 Series II and my wife is wondering if we made a good purchase. Does anyone have a idea what this is worth? From the seller the only thing that is not original is the engine which was replaced with SBC 350.

It all depends on the condition.sometimes you can pick them up for around 4 or 5 grand. But to get into one that is restored to original,or streetrodded out real nice the skies the limit. They usually start around $18,000 and on up. I have a 55 2nd that can be bought, but it will take $21,000.for someone to buy it.I have seen them go a lot higher than that in worse condition than mine.

having bought it, what you paid is what it was worth, what it'd be worth to someone else will be their story ... you'd get more info if you said what you paid and asked 'did he see me comin', and if "good purchase" means investment for profit .... well it mighta been cheaper than doing a ground up restoration yerself grin

a finished, running driving truck could bring 3,000 to 20,000 - the truck looks pretty clean, other than the wrong wheels and tires

I paid $13,500 for it. It does have the original wheels and hub caps. My wife is having buyer remorse and I know it is worth more then what I paid for it.

that's not outrageous, and if you keep it in as good a shape as it is, you should/might get that back for it, if vintage truck toys are still of interest whenever you sell - "run of the mill" old trucks aren't investment material, they're fun to drive and a personal hobby

right now the truck is worth 13 five, a professional or insurance appraiser might say more or less, but when push comes to shove, it's only worth what the one person who "has to have it" is willing to pay, if you can't find that person .... ohwell

IMHO the 55 2nd is the coolest looking truck ever produced. GM has yet to improve on that style even though 58-59 come close.

I think your truck looks great. I also don't think you got hurt on the price. I always like to find out what's underneath all the paint, but from here it looks like a gem. Don't worry, my wife has buyers remorse for all 15 of my trucks.

Well I have home now and my wife fell in love with it at first site. I think I lost it my wife. It runs and drives just like I remember it. It does have a couple of problems, the driver side door will not stay closed and the clutch needs to be adjusted. Other then that it very straight with no rust anywhere that I can find. What is need to find now is a good repair manual and a place to get replacement door parts. I think I am going to replace the door latches and striker plates and have a professional adjust the doors. I hate slamming doors. So if anyone knows of a good place to find these items please let me know. Thanks.

the parts are available at any of the repro vendors, like American Classic or Jim Carter [see links page] and it definitely doesn't take a "professional" to install or adjust, just someone who knows which end of a screwdriver is the handle - while you're ordering parts, get the TF shop manual, will answer most all your maint questions .... and hate it or not, frequently slamming is the only way these doors work grin

Hey red58, I disagree with you on the door thing, because I'm waiting for Gas to be able to help me get a '54 home, and its doors work fine! smile But that's surprising, considering the whole truck is pretty much covered in rust, and the glove box door fell off.

Looks like you got a good buy. I paid $10,000 for mine about 5 years ago, plus another $800 to have it shipped from Colorado.Body wise it was in nice shape, mechanically it had and still does have a 350. It had a M22 4 speed which I traded for a built 700R4 auto.I went ahead and put all new front and rear suspension ,new interior, new headers and Flowmaster exhaust system, along with new Chrome Corvette Ralley wheels.Of course all this adds more money to the project, but it is one sweet ride.Oh yeah, cant forget the Dakota Digital Dash, and many other upgrades, including a Billet Specialties stainless steering column,LeCarra steering wheel ,Lokar shifter and E brake.Good luck with your new truck.

I spent a few minutes looking at the door latch and the strike plate and noticed that it wasn't hitting it quite right. Made a few adjustments and now the door latches. Still going to order some new ones. Took it on a drive and didn't like the way the tranny sounded. I think I'm going to pull it out and rebuild it. I want to thank everyone for their advise on where to find the repair manuals for this year truck.
