Could anyone tell me how available a rear end from an early 50's Chev. half ton pick-up would be with approx. 3.70's.

The 1949 Chevy truck data book for salesmen list:

1/2 ton only available with 4.11
3/4 either 4.57 or 5.14
1 ton only 5.14
1.5 ton either 5.43 or 6.17
2 ton only 6.17

3/4 and 1 ton can be interchanged, and 1.5 and 2 ton likewise.

as Grigg points out, early 50's Chev trucks had 4.11 and later, 3.90, ratios, so none would be available with 3.70's grin

There are aftermarket gears available. 3.55 ratio.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.
