I tried to lube them but the grease would not go in....I changed the nipples which was easy to my surprise..... I eventually got some grease in but it was hit and miss... I use the best grip gun etc.... the bottom bearing spins good.... I also had the front end jacked off the ground ..I noticed when I had the nipple off it seem to just butt up to the pin itself the grease seems to have no where to go....
any thoughts on this is ... I call it all part of owning a old truck...

Even if the pins are blocked by the bushings, you can remove the Zerk and run a drill through the bushing...it's bronze or brass and very soft. It doesn't hurt a thing if you drill into the pin a bit.
This will guarantee a path for the grease. Reinstall the new, good Zerk and pump away. As you drill, watch for the chips to change from brass/bronze to steel. That's when it's time to stop drilling. A small dimple in the new pin won't hurt a thing.

The grease should go through. You must have the truck jacked up so the weight is off the wheels. As you have pressure on the grease gun move the wheel back & forth a little. You can drill into the bushing like Stuart pointed out, but you will not drill into the pin. It is supper hard. Zerks have been around for 70 years. They say money can't buy happiness.
