I am doing a 1963 chevy pickup an I am taking the old 292 inline 6 out an the 4 spd trans an I want to put in a 350 sbc an a 1979 chevy 4 spd trans what do I need to change are how do I do it? And I want to change the front with a 1979 chevy c-10 2wheel drive what do I need are how do I do it? I want to put in a 1979 chevy c-10 rear end what needs to be changed are how do I do it? thanks have a nice day.

That 292 has as much bottom end torque as that 350. I had no problem towing what ever I needed to with the 292. There were some long grades that I did get down into 3rd at about 35 mph, that said. Pull the 292 with passenger side motor mount and tower and put in the for sale forum. You will need a 68-72 truck bell housing and 63-72 passenger side tower and motor mount for a v8. There should be enough wire on the wire harness that it will work with the v8. You may have to get an adapter for the temp sender use the one from the six it will match your gauge if you have one. If I missed something I'm sure it will be caught.

From what I've read the front end should be just about a direct swap. You may need a drill or a rat tail file to get all the bolts to slip in. That's my project for this year.

Does the 79 have coils or leaf?

I need to know if a 1979 chevy 2 wheel drive trans will work an what I need to change? I got a brand new wiring harness for my 1963 chevy pickup an i got a v8 for it. And that 79 has leaf springs

I think there are two possible 4 spds you could have SM465 or NP435, either has larger input shaft bearing retainer than the SM420 you are replacing. You can have your bell housing machined to fit or get the 68-72 bell. Here's a link to identify the trans.

The only rear axle swap I have done is a 73 into my 68 and both were leaf. The biggest problem I had was with the shock mounts. Chevy changed the mounts to front and back, from both back. You may not have that problem since your lower shock mounts are brackets held on by the u-bolts on the control arms. I assume you have measured the axles outside and inside and there is no fit problem with any rims you have or might get. You will have to move the control arm and panhard mounts from the old axle to the new axle. Hopefully someone can add more.
