Cost was 119.95 plus S & H, parts number on my invoice is 73-061k, Roller Bearing upgrade kit. It was a direct replacement on my truck. Hope this helps. | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 | The kit is about 100 bucks at CPP | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,067 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,067 | Have you noticed a smoother ride when you changed out those bearings?

In the course of the brake job, I discovered the bad bearings and realized that the cost of converting to the newer style was comparable to the original style. In fact, if I remember correctly it was a couple of dollars cheaper than the original bearings.I figured that I might as well fix two problems at once, so I did. I'm afraid I'm no help in the ride department.:) | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | The tapered bearing won't change the ride quality. it has more to do with them being able to tolerate the forces that modern radial tires exert on the bearings over the original style rollers. I ahve had both in mine, and really didn't notice that much difference in how it drove, other than maybe a bit less wander.

I made the switch when the old ball type bearings went bad. Cost was about a 100 bucks plus shipping. It took most of a Saturday to do the whole change over. It made no difference in the ride, but as stated, it did help tighten up the front end in terms of steering it seems.

But you mean compared to a new set of either style bearings. Ball bearings have a single point of contact, where as tapered bearings spread the load over a broader face. The tapered bearings should have a longer life. So what is "TPP" and what is their website link? I am unfamiliar of what that stands for. Thanks.
