#35749 12/26/2003 10:58 AM | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 13 Member | | Member Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 13 | Have a fresh Rochester 1 brl on my 250 and since the truck (67 panel) did not come with a cleaner and one brl air cleaners hard to find, I installed a "mr gasket" plastic adapter and stadard 10" chrome air cleaner.
Therin is where the trouble lies...It's sits too low, and is in the way of the choke mechanism, can I fab. somthing out of PVC?(the adapters plastic) ....or will it melt!!??
Just wonderin if its a harware store or Machine shop issue.

Hope you had a wonder Christmas in Lovely Soquel. Don't know much about your clearance issue but I would steer away from PVC for both stability and durability reasons. I'd be a little concern with the affect the heat from the engine might have on pvc after your stopped. Maybe I'm a little over cautious. I'm sure you can either find or configure something in metal instead that would be a lot more stout.

I ended up going to Winchester Auto Parts in Soquel and getting a tailpipe adapter and cut it down to fit. Just measure the opening in the air cleaner and the top of the carb & get pipe that fits. If they don't have it in stock, they can order it and have it there in a few days. | | |

It has a spacer on the Stromberg that will fit your Rochester. The spacer is 7/8 in. high, if that will work for you, email me your address, or you can pick it up. I'm over the hill in San Jose. You can have the air cleaner if you want it too.

I'll check that out as an option, One question though, I will need it to be diferent sizes on each end since it need to be an extension riser going from the carb to the spacer. :p | | |

It is a reducer to go from 1 pipe size to another. I found a stock 37 air cleaner that fits without it, so it is collecting dust in my garage. If you can use it, you can have it. I'll have to measure the sizes. Winchester stocks lots of them in different sizes at both ends and can order sizes not in stock. I'll measure mine. Went to Midas and they took care of me with a small scrap of pipe. Took it home and ground it smooth. Voila!! Eureka! etc. etc.
