Will it bolt up to the bell housing? What other problems? Would it have to be an older model 350, or say 327 or 283? Thanks for your help,Jim. | | |

Does yours have the hydraulic clutch with the throwout fork on the passenger's side? There is a bellhousing with the V-8 bolt pattern that is set up for the same clutch release arrangement, and the master cylinder, etc., will swap out OK. The manual-clutch variety has the throwout fork on the driver's side, and there is a pivot ball that screws into the 350 block just above the oil filter that allows the bellcrank to swivel. You'll have to fabricate an appropriate exhaust system, and do a little wiring and plumbing modification. The transmission, etc. will bolt up with no problems.

Putting a small block in your '61 will require a little bit of work as the v8 bell housing is different and the motor mounts are also. I would look for a 63-66 C60 in a boneyard and rob the necessary parts although they are a little diff. than your 61 they will have the motor frame mounts and bell housing you need. Swapping out the old 235 is probably a good idea. If you do much hauling as it is way underpowered for a truck this size. Mike | | |
