Exterior will be Mariner Blue, and I understand the cab is Pearl Beige? What about seat frame, trim around windows, etc. What is the recommended colors to try to be as original as possible? Thanks for any help, Joe | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | Pearl Beige is the standard interior color for pickup cabs in 1954. All parts were Pearl Beige, except for the Steering wheel, steering column/mast-jacket, and 3-speed column-shifter mechanism. The "CHEVROLET" letters on the dash were white, and there were black center sections on the dash vertical grill-bars to the left and right of the radio-grill bars. Here is a Dupont Paint sheet for 1954.Will you have a painted grill and bumpers? If so, ask, if you want color information (it's all on that paint link). Also, if you need paint codes, PPG can provide all the colors ( information on colors, codes, and obtaining modern formulas/codes are available in this Tech Tip). Tim | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 28 Apprentice | Apprentice Joined: May 2005 Posts: 28 | Thanks, I was curious about the trim around windows, seat frame, etc. I have used your site quite regularly for the information that I have thus far. This truck I hope will be a replica of my Grandfather's when I am finished. The bumper will be painted the Anvil Grey as your site advises. As for the grill, is just the 1st flat layer all that is painted the Thistle Grey or does the first drop get painted grey also? Thanks again for all the good info!! If I understand your description correctly, I'd say that from the rear of the grill bars, the first flat layer and the small forward "first drop" get painted thistle gray (on the middle bars and the bottom "plate"). I'll try to take and post pictures tomorrow.
Tim
See photos below - only the "first drop" of the flat area gets painted.

I do not have my chrome grill nearby, anymore. I'll check my painted grills tomorrow (even though I hate going out into the cold). Tim My painted grill is only painted in the first flat area from the rear - to the edge of forward dip in the flat area (to match a few unmolested but rusted original pieces). A few photos are posted below (thanks for the correction, Greg). 1954 painted grill - photo 11954 painted grill - photo 2

Mine was as original as they come and all the seat frames are a brownish color. However mine is a 55 1st if that makes a differance. Also the interior was a pearl beige and the seat covering was brown.

The 1954 Suburban had Maroon seat frames and the seat covers were maroon cushion-sides and gray cushion-tops. 1954 Truck Engineering Features manual (Also, check the Appendix, page 110) The 1947-53 Suburban seat frames were brown. I only have one 55-1st document and I will see if there is any interior color info in it. Tim ___________ Bruce, I checked my paint colors Tech Tip and it has conflicting information for 1955-1st. I must have found conflicting information in different documents - Peal Beige (and Brown) might well have been used in 1955-1st Suburbans. I'll see if I can find the original document(s). | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 1,186 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 1,186 | Thanks Tim, I have no doubt what I have is original. Nothing on this truck had been touched. I'll try to scan a photo of it when I brought it home. That's another long story! I've owned the 1st since 1988 and I'm in a VERY slow restoration back to original. I've been to your site many times and think it great! I have a pretty extensive collection of literature for the '54 trucks. If I can get my scanner going I'll send you some things I didn't see on your site if you'd like.
