I tried the body and paint section with no answers, so I'll try here. A '56 GMC Pontiac V8, does anyone have or know what the correct color is?...it's definately a red, but just how red?..I am doing the best job I can on this restoration, and I am bead blasting such things as the valve covers, intake manifold and related parts, and am now looking for the correct color, any body?

I always thought the Pontiac engines were painted blue

Actually you got a number of responses on the paint board, just not the one you wanted.
I beleive the color is an Indian Red primer color - I used to have a 57 GMC way back when. It's the same color that was used on some transmissions and transfer cases.

WBKINSEY, on the GMC trucks, the color was red, on the cars, it was blue.

thanks napcogmc, learn something every day. Never paid no mind to GMC's much and guess it shows. Didn't even know the V8 was offered in them. Always thought they went from the straight 6 to the V6. Seems they were connected with Pontiac but would have thought they would have gone with the Chevy small blocks or the big block 348. When did Chev and GMC get it together on their engines anyway?
