Getting ready to bring my 65 C60 in to get a new floor in the bed and I need to check the oil. I bought it last spring and havent used it yet and the dipstick is missing tube and all. The man I bought it from had a new one for it I just need to install it. He said this engine is a 283. I cannot find the place in the block where this goes and I need to get it put in there pretty quick. Thanks for any help!!!

drivers side just back of middle, should be an obvious boss on the block with a hole the size of the tube - if it has original rams horn manifolds the tube will nestle between 2 ridges just behind the Y outlet

If it is like a regular small block of that year, it will be on the drivers side, towards the back, under the exhaust manifold. There will be a small hole, approx 3/8 inch, in the block and the dipstick tube needs to be inserted up to the stop ring.

Thanks much guys!!! I will check that out tomorrow. I am not sure that this is the original engine I have the manual for it and according to it 60 series did not come with the 283.

There is a pad on the block that is at the front and bottom of the passenger side head. On that pad will be some numbers and letters. If you can get the engine code letters to us, we will try to see exacty what engine you have. The letters are the last ones to the right.

Thanks!!the engine number written in the manual is F0320YA R I will get that engine number off the block sometime maybe this is a different engine. It was cold and windy out there today and I did however find the dip stick opening and what is left of the old tube was barely sticking out and is mangled bad I dont know how I am going to get it out without either pulling the fender and everything off or pulling the engine there just isnt any working room there and pliers arent going to work I tried LOL. I do need to put a new ring gear on the flywheel so maybe I just should pull that engine soon and do it then. I was going to drop the trans to get to the flywheel but now I may just pull the engine. It needs a good cleaning and repainting anyhow LOL

Couldn't find anything as "YAR", but could it be TAR? Also found a YA.

If you can double check the code, I'll check on it further.

Y'know, Keith, my wife told me the same thing and I never suspected that there were any negative connotations until I read your message. thumbs_up
