The '57 3200 I am restoring has the 1955-6 steering wheel- flat across, not the "deep dish" type noted as used on the '57s. Is it possible that they used up some of the '56 steering wheels in 1957 production before they switched to the new wheel? The truck has a '57 VIN code and a '57 grille so I am pretty sure it's a '57. Also the steering column is shorter with a '57 steering wheel, to account for the wheel deep dish, right? I actually prefer the '56 wheel's appearance and do not want to change out the steering column but will if it is not correct for the restoration. Can any fellow 'Bolters shed light on this?

I guess it's possible that they may have used some steering wheels and columns from the previous yesr but I would guess that it's not likely. Is there a chance that your cab and front sheetmetal was swapped to an earlier chassis at some point and that they just retained the earlier steering column and wheel?

Hmmm...I'm thinking back to high school (over 30 years ago). My girlfriend had a '57 and I had a '58. If I'm not mistaken it seems I remember that her truck had the earlier wheel also, but I could be wrong. Are you sure '57 was the first year for the deeper dish steering wheel?

Someone will be along shortly to shed more light, I'm sure.

yes 57 was the year they changed, and the column was a few inches shorter with the dished wheel, and I doubt the factory would have used a 56 wheel and column in a 57 truck, certainly wouldn't have used the 56 wheel with a 57 column ... keep in mind that the truck is 50 years old, much more likely some po changed the wheel, in which case you'd have more room between your belly and the wheel - try measuring the column to compare with others here
