I am currently building a 235 engine with plans to build a 350 in the future. Can any body make any recommendations on a good brand. Anything I should watch out for? I am assuming I need the universal. You're a mechanic, so this might go without saying...don't let anyone talk you into a budget driver set that uses plastic drivers...as my kids would say, "they suck".
As where to get one, eBay would be a good place to watch, or peruse craigslist occasionally. I think a new set would probably cost at least one arm and part of a leg.
Take a night machine shop class and whip an entire set out..isn't Eugene crawling with community colleges.

I have been looking at the many different brands and they seem to run between $150-$300 for the new ones. I cannot tell the difference between the the $150 and $300 models by the descriptions in the ads. They all seem to use a neoprene sleeve with split driving plugs. I put an ad on craigslist for a used one. Stuart I would love to do the machine shop class, if only I had the time!
Thanks Jason | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 841 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 841 | watch out if you buy that one from northern you'll get a catalog every week. ha just kidding!! i think i paid 65 or so for mine it was like new but used on ebay. i only mess with 250's or 292's so i only use one of the drivers, i think it's #2. you will also need the extention if you will be doing a inline 6 and the plastic cone to center it. i'll be the devil on your shoulder- buy it, buy it. | | |
