I finally got my daughter to help me figure out a couple things and now have the photobucket pretty well updated. Take a look.
I still have a LOT of work but at least I am somewhat ready to start putting it back together...well, except for the body work ugh!

cool panel! i have a 52' panel in drydock for now. your project is going to be fun. when you get to the real fun of repairing those cowl sections take lots of pic's as it would really inspire other truck owners. the rest of the body looks good. good luck.

Chip, these Panels and Suburbans grow on you don't they. Mine was rusted out in almost the identical places. I found that when replacing the lower left cowl and toeboard pieces that I had not been careful enough. The bracket that holds the E-brake shaft and pedal assembly would not fit up properly to the toeboard and as a result I had to cut it and bolt it on in two pieces. The left inner fender bolts to this piece and I hope I don't have a problem when it comes time to assemble the inner fender. Just thought I would give you a heads up on this particular situation. Keep plugging and when it starts going back together its a good feeling.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. WEEDS, I truly understand what you mean about the bracket that holds the E-brake. Just TODAY I found it in a box of stuff and went ahead and blasted it in the cabinet and primed it. It is also rusted pretty bad so to make it look better I mixed up some JBWeld and smoothed it down. It was just to ugly the way it was!
If you look at one of the pics in photobucket you can see plastic containers and stuff piled in it. Thats the way it was when I got it. I'm still finding stuff and had no idea what the ebrake brecket was until I started looking through the assembly manual a few minutes ago. The PO had stripped it out/down pretty good and I think, along with his health issures, that he figured he was in over his head? No pun intended if he reads this. I've got both floorboard sections WITH half toeboards all in one piece and already have the inner cowl panel, the inner to outer cowl piece and the full outer cowl. Now if I could persuade some nice stovebolt body man to come visit me for a couple weeks I'd be in business!
I've been "under the weather" for about 4 weeks now and today was the first day I spent any time in the shop and that was only about an hour. Maybe next week I'll be better. I got to get with it so "I can get catch and get ahead of TPYLE".
I'll bet Tom will get moving now want he!! hehee

Its a mess, but as Johnny Cash says one piece at a time.

Good going Alvin! I can relate to the things you are having issues with. Did you ever get a correct gas tank? Hope you will be feeling better now as winter is setting in. Leo

1953Panel, a real nice stovebolter sent me a tank that I can cut and make work....then another nice bolter told me he has one that will bolt right up. We're "wheeling and dealing" right now so maybe I can use the bigger one to help someone else. I forgot to put a pic of my old tank (man, what a sight) but will on the next update.
Mike, better get on that 50...hehe, fire up the disel heater and get to work. Cold weather is no excuse! (payback pal, hehe)

When I visited Alvin the 1st thing that came to my mind was "I wished I had his shop". Plus his wife makes great cake thumbs_up so how can a guy go wrong.

On a side note, Alvin thanks again for inviting myself & Katie to stop by for a while on the way to N.Carolina, had a great time & only wish there could of been more time. Maybe next time the wife will be able to come along & be able to enjoy some of that cake your wife made. Not sure when it might be but hopefully we can do it sometime this summer...Joe

Joe, anytime pal. And for those that are wondering it was a Sweet Potatoe Cake. Wifey made it for my birthday which happen to be just before Joe dropped by.

Oltrucks, thanks I may have to take you up on that offer. Since I wasn't the one that "stripped" the guts out of it I sometime feel like a blind man figuring some of that stuff out.

Thanks guys for the nice comments on my shop but I assure you I spent my years rolling around in the mud and muck not to mention the sand or cold wind and rain at times. AND its my doghouse when the wifey get angry at me!!

Alvin, I've been noticing the nice blue colour of your '37. That is a very similar colour to what my panel will soon be. Is it a GM colour? I own a 2003 full size Savana van also blue so my panel will be identical to it, with my company name and logo.

53panel: I think you mentioned in another post that you favored the blues and bluish teal colors.....so do I. My Silverado is a dark blue and I even thought about a blue for my panel but figure that would be to many blues!!

I am ashamed to admit what color the 37 is. I was looking at a color sheet and picked one out. Sprayed it on the firewall and didn't like it. I went back to the "charts" and the one I ended up using was a 93 (or it could have been a 91 FORD truck color.)
...am I now banned from the stovebolt?????

It is called a Metallic Lt Reggetta(spelling)Blue. I do have the # of the paint somewhere. HOWEVER, I have parked it beside a FERD of the same color and while you can tell they are the same color it looks entirely different on my truck!! Whew, thank God for that!!
And as we all know, it depends on how well the mixer weighs and mixes the color.
Mainly because of the cost I am thinking White Enamel and then I'm going to paint a particular color portrait of ALVIN on the back side of the panel.....or maybe just paint the outline of a Ghost on it and call it CASPER?!

Edit: I have added a couple pics to my panel progress showing me sand blasting the frame if anyone is interested. Go to PAGE TWO

Thanks, Alvin. It's coming along slowly but surely. I gotta get my pictures up soon, it looks so much like what you are doing. Are you putting the double rear tail/signal lights on? Don't bother finding the paint numbers, my paint is bought already but it looks so much like your pickup.

tail lights are so far in front of me I don't have a clue. I'm thinking about something to "sink" into each back door or perhaps into the fenders..probably the back doors. Believe it or not a friend of mine used some lights he found that were off a HYSTER/TOW MOTOR and they looked sharp and the price was right! I guess I'll have to decide when I get to the body work........
How about a sunken led light on the outside of each door??
Just thinking but its gets dangerous when I dod that:)

Hey chipmunk!!!
I was looking thru your pics a minute ago and I was curious if you got any more shots of the body dolly. it looks neat. .

also, from experience, get a couple of good spot weld drill bit it makes removing those 10,000 spot welds easier. the inner braces are a pain .it took a little love :hammering: and a few choice words :mad:to get them "in place".

good luck

tpyle: I do have a couple shots of the dollies I made and will send you a shot later. I just didn't put them on the link. I used 1 1/4 pipe and screwed it all together. YOu can buy pipe here at Lowes and they will cut it and thread it for free. So I just decided how high I wanted the body and then figured how many elbows and Tee's I needed.....went to Northern Tool and bought some wheels....HEY, be SURE all wheels will swivel. I already had 4 smaller wheels but bought 4 bigger wheels to help it roll around better. All I had to do was just make the "uprights" come out to the same height. I did weld the wheels so they would not "turn".
I have the Width so that the cross bar will fit into the middle of the cross brace underneath. So far so good. I'll shoot you a pic tomorrow when I get into my Kodah Easy share.

Hey Alvin,

Nice work on getting the body of the panel. I have been really busy and have not been on the 'bolt in a while.
Check out my link

http://www.longsmotorsport.com

to see the work we have been into. I still do plan to stop by the Beacon and meet ya.

Hank

Hank, checked out the web site and signed the register. Thanks for the atta boy on the panel. Its been slow go but I try to do some little something every day.

The Beacon Cruise-ins will start back around the 3rd Friday in March or maybe April. Keep check with me or watch the Hearld ads in the antique car section for the cruise-in Ad.
OR drop by the beacon any 3rd Tuesday of each month and join in the monthly meeting. In fact there is one NEXT Tuesday at 7:30. I usually go a little early so I can get some stew or one of the "chilly-chees-APlenty"!! We are in the little glassed in room with "reserved" on the door. Just come on in!!!!

Oh, that 51 is gonna make a nice ride!
