just noticed the word GREEN on the lefthand cowl just above the fuse box.is this the factory colour designation.it looks like it was stencilled on the cab before it was painted

My 54 has "Transport" written in grease pencil on the underside of the hood. It is transport blue and white truck. There is some writing in the area that you described but I can't tell what it says.

My 55 2nd has "Green" written on the underside of the hood. The way I understand it, Green was the go to color for units that had no color specified in the build sheet, customer order. I think it was either forest green or juniper green.

It would depend on the year as to which Green was the std color. Forrester Green was std on AD trucks, Juniper Green was used the TFs. I can't say for the in between years, but Holly Green (vitually tha same color as Juniper Green) was the std color for '79.
BTW, my '55 2nd has 152 C Blue on the underside of the hood. It was originally Crystal Blue.

its a 51 so it would have been forrester green.dose anybody know if any of these trucks saw military service,called up so to speak or were they just bought new.i only ask becouse in the process of prepairing the truck for a repaint{matt black}there is coat of matt olive green.what do you think?

The US military did purchase std pickups and suvs for use, especially on the bases. They would get either painted OD Green or Battleship Geay depending on which branch that they went to.
