HOw can you tell the difference between a 350 turbo and a 400 turbo? Trying to identify a transmission.

Thanks

Pans on the bottom are different. Look at a pan gasket for each, or a service manual.

The pan on the TH-400 reminds me of the State of Texas. Also don't take this as gospel (as apparently my mechanic buddy with 20yrs in says he's seen different), but on my junk the 400 has the vacuum modulator on the right side close to the bellhousing just above the pan, and the 350 has it on the rear facing the driveshaft.

350 has an almost square pan with one corner cut off.

Click on the trannies on the Nowak tranny page . It shows the pan patterns.

The TH-400 also has a different driveshaft connection...Th-350 slides in on a splined shaft, the 400 has half of the front joint bolted to the trans output shaft.

If you are so inclined, the TH-700 has a square pan. If you are switching to an automatic and have the stock rear-end, I'd recommend this transmission because of the overdrive and lock-up converter.
