The guy said it’s a 6v. It has a narrow pulley so I guess it’s from a later engine, probably mid 50’s something. The number is Delco-Remy 1100046 1G24 http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2500099300098611668xJnfmw Anyone recognize what it might have been off of? Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

I wonder when they changed from the straight housing to the stepped housing? Yours is still 6v, right? If ya still got a tag on your generator, I wonder if you might get the numbers off of it and post it for meeeee???? Please?? Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

| | | | | | OLTrucks Unregistered | | OLTrucks Unregistered | well looking at the black tag (6-volt) and the step down housing (later, no band) I would say it is tractor the paint might make one think that too. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 | My '54 Motors Manual lists about two pages of Delco generators and that number isn't even in the series.

I looked in my 1929-50 manual, 1929-1954 manual, 1929-1957 manual, 1949-1972 manual and come up empty. I tink the OLTruck guy hit the nail on the head. The yellow paint made me think that it might be of some kind of impliment. Actually it has four layers of paint, the Delco Black, Yellow, then Red then Yellow. And yes, I forgot, the black tag would indicate that it's a 6v. I would just like to know what the capacity of the generator is. The pully could be changed to a more friendly one. But I suppose the chance of my finding a Delco Master Catalog to ID the specs is next to impossable. Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

Short step down Delco generator but 6 volt. Would have been 6 volt because the crawler would have had a pony start motor. So basically its the generator for the pony motor which would have been 6 volt. Once the pony was started it would have been engaged into the large motor to crank it. This was a typical set up on large motors. This would explain the yellow industrial paint. Can someone explain the application a little more for me. I haven't been around the equipment that is talked about here.

Most of those units put out 20-25 amps. Its not hard to get mixed up on generators as there were literally in the thousands of different Delco generator combinations. All having different armatures, fields, end plates, fan pulleys with different belt widths as well as pulley diameters and distance of the actual pulley from the end plate. Just glancing at my info I counted at least 17 different generators, just on chevy trucks from 1953-62, all built different in some way. Its dependend on the motor, with or without A/C, with or without Power Steering, optional factory amperage upgrades etc. I have all the original Delco Books from the early 30s up that give all the generator numbers, however, Chevy supplied most of their own pulleys, so the generator would be Delco and the pulley would be Chevy, this means you have to have some way of figuring out what chevy pulley was used. So if your looking for a 100% correct generator, you really have to know your generator parts, numbers, etc. or give someone like me a call that can tell you exactly what you need. Fred, your dealing with a GMC, thats a whole different ball game than Chevy when it comes to starters and generators. Your 51 1 ton shows 2 generator numbers, Delco gen. #1102749 and 1102761. They both show to be the same generator so again, I would have to really dig to find out the difference between the two if any. I can tell you, both are the old style long straight case with the band around the brush end, 6 volt, aluminum end plates and probably a 5/8 belt pulley with an offset hub on the pulley as well. OK, Im done rattling on....
