Has anyone rebuilt a tranny for one of these? Is it tough or would I be better off buying a rebuild? Does anyone know costs? And a good source? Are these common enough to take to a local transmission shop? My father has a body shop so I have access to any of his tools but he never does any mechanical work. Don't tell me look for a 'good used' one I've had bad experiences with 'good used' parts.
Thanks.

I had mine rebuilt in a local shop that was recommended by local mechanics. No problems so far...

It's very simple, don't pay a lot if you have it done.

If you do it yourself just order new bearings from one of the parts sites and put them in. If you have any gears that need replacing keep an eye on e-bay, they come up all of the time.

That should be an sm420 transmission, they're pretty easy to rebuild. Check out the links section for a place called Novak, they sell kits with everything youll need to rebuild. I think it was about 200$ for the full kit. You dont really need any special tools. Theres a lot of info about these if you do a search.

Good luck, Jeff
