Is it tough or would I be better off buying a rebuild? Does anyone know costs? And a good source? Are these common enough to take to a local transmission shop? My father has a body shop so I have access to any of his tools but he never does any mechanical work. Don't tell me look for a 'good used' one I've had bad experiences with 'good used' parts. Thanks. No problems so far... | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 338 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 338 | It's very simple, don't pay a lot if you have it done.
If you do it yourself just order new bearings from one of the parts sites and put them in. If you have any gears that need replacing keep an eye on e-bay, they come up all of the time. | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,867 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 1,867 | That should be an sm420 transmission, they're pretty easy to rebuild. Check out the links section for a place called Novak, they sell kits with everything youll need to rebuild. I think it was about 200$ for the full kit. You dont really need any special tools. Theres a lot of info about these if you do a search.
Good luck, Jeff | | |
