I am restoring a 1958 Apache Fleetside in San Diego. This is my first project and hoping there is someone located near San Diego that may want to take a look and give some guidance. I am a rookie, I am broken but not beaten.

I'm clear down in the armpit of California but wanted to at least welcome you to the board and say that you've come to the right place for info and Chevy talk! Good luck on your restoration! Here is a link that I have that shows the truck before I realized I needed to strip it down completely to find all of the rust. I will post more accurate pictures since I had it plastic media blasted. The bummer is that I had a sop start some of the major rust repair and they went out of biz, leaving me a little lost on how to proceed. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748050/1 | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 507 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 507 | Brian, welcome to the "BOLT" nice looking 58. Be encouraged, with the advice from Stovebolters, some time & money and some effort you will have one heck of a nice truck. But I wanted to do it right so out went all of the old bondo. Have you heard of Mono's in Chula Vista? I have some panel patches and rust damage i need repaired. Do you know anyone else in San Diego who can work on the rust repair? I am hoping that I can go panel by panel for cash flow reasons. Nice to meet someone in San Diego! It looks like you have a great start and it sure looks like it's going to turn out nice. Good Job! Your shop looks great too. My garage is a little cramped but I'll make do. I just replaced the fuel tank and I'm getting ready to replace the entire brake system. She's been in my family for over 40 years and has been sitting a while but I got it running again a few weeks ago. Now I just need to figure out why the ammeter is showing a discharge (ICWIPI - It Charged When I Parked It!!) I've got a 283 that's going to find itself under the hood very shortly. Whereabouts in San Diego are you? | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 424 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 424 | Hey Brian,
I just saw that you have your truck listed for sale. Don't give up man! You'll always regret it. You're pretty close. Finish it and pass it on to that new baby when it's time. That's how I got mine. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 | i'm working on the telecommunications failure out on hwy 94 area at dulzura /barrett canyon during the days, sun up- sun down

I know the original photos that I posted look like the truck is moving along, but as I worked on it I found a lot of rust and bondo. I just could not paint over that so I ended up stripping her down, ordering a lot of patch panels and some replacement parts. The I realized I needed help on the rust repair so I took it to a body shop who did half the work over 2 years then went out of business, kept my money and left me with a mess. Since I am low on cash I have decided to do what I can, but I am trying to find someone who can stop by and help create a strategy. I am in Carlsbad near Tamarack. Best, Brian | | |
