Great idea except the new pitman arm has clearance problems with the lower A frame since the truck is lowered. Does anyone know of a modern pitman arm that is straight like the original one? I would rather not "clearance" the A arm. Thanks for your ideas! | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 121 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 121 |

In the end I went looking in the junk yards. Found the prefect flat pitman arm for my truck on an 80's Chevy Astro van. It's a little hard to get to, but with a pitman arm puller you should be OK. If I remember correctly it's about 6" from center to center. I found out that there are no other choices on the end that fits it except the drag link from the same van. I would ream it to fit the drag link you want to use.
An IH Scout II from late 70's is flat and about 9" center to center, if that helps...
Take a look in the junk yards, you'll find something.

How would I get the right taper to get it to fit correctly? Thanks! Phil | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,066 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,066 | Phil, Check with ABS in Orange, CA. They do a lot of brake and steering conversions in their shop and sell the kits & parts. They have a good selection of pitman arms, and have always found the parts I've needed. 714-771-6549 www.abspowerbrake.comFred
