Does the eagle emblem and base fit over the center piece of my 54 truck or do I need to take or cut out a section of it to apply the eagle... Peter

The 1954 truck ornament has a base that fits over the hood center strip.

Just exactly as TCLederman said. It fits right over the center hood strip,,all you do is drill 4 mounting holes,,and youre rollin with one of the coolest hood ornaments there ever was!!!
Just make sure you dont have the car hood ornament,,its the same bird but a different base,which wont fit over the hood strip.

Just got the same bird off of Ebay. Installation should be easy enough with makeing a templet from the base and transferring it to the hood. Any different approaches?

Cam which bird did you get there was one on ebay that went for $250.00 with the base wow lots of dough.... Peter

delux54 panel- I got the one on ebay from orange county. i am going to put it on my burb.

Peter- It went for 250 and yes expensive but I've seen them go for more and a lot less quality!

I got the bird yesterday its not perfect but the pantina will go well on my burb. does some one have a copy of the original templete i have the measurement of where to plate the templete?

John- I installed mine over the weekend and had to create my own templete. This was doen by laying a peice of paper aginst the bottom and also allowing for two "wings" to hold onto or tape down when placed on the hood. The screw holes were placed by taking Q-tips (yes, they fit the screw holes almost exactly by taking some of the cotten off) and cutting them just above the surface of the base so when I put the template back on the underside, the non-cotten ends stuck up just enough to contact and mark the templete. The one issue on the screws and the templete is that the templete does not take into consideration the center band which bulges and will distort the templete demension on the hood, I did not take this into consideration but I was still able to contact the screw holes by a slight angle of the screws and got a good fit.

The other issue is where does the bird/templete go on the hood. This I did by sliding the bird up and down on the hood until I could not see any large gaps on the underside of the base and also pushing down on the front of the base so as to not cause the rear to lift up and vise versa. Place tape on the hood so you don't scratch the hood. Also a visual look for straitness when you think you have found the "sweetspot". The screws have to be modified due to the back ones being shorter then the front ones, bolt cutters and tap and die set covered this.

Also make sure the front of the bases cutout for the center band is wide enough to fit around it, I had to grind the slot out on the base to make it fit over the band (also tape the base so the grinder does not slip and mar the work).

Cam, if you had to grind your base out where the hood center strip goes, you probably have the car hood ornament.
Its the same bird but a different base.

Marty- Hmmmm, not sure, I only had to take aboout 1/16 on one side and the arch of the base is darn near identical to the truck hood arch? I will post pictures tonight of the bird on the truck as well as the templete.
