I've checked the forums but not seen any questions about reinstalling the kit with a bearing. I got my old chewed up spindle off and have a used one to replace it. I ordered a kingpin kit and it had a roller bearing in it and a thick 1/2 spacer as well as the small spacers. My shop manual and the tech tip only discuss the thrust washer and dust caps setup etc. Is there any special installation steps if the kit has a bearing instead? Thanks!! | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 . | | . Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 | Should have a bearing (unless the baby trucks don't? I don't play with little trucks).
Use the bearing, the spacer if needed, and then put the thin shims on the top of the axle to take up any extra slop between the axle end and the spindle. Think of it like this, you jack up the front axle and the wheels with spindles don't slide down the king pin because the shims make it an almost snug fit, or is that more confusing?

There is a 'Tech-Tip' that deals with this subject. Look at the very top of this page, it will take you there.
I might not understand the semantics. The thrust washer IS a bearing. If I remember correctly, it is about 1/2" thick...look closely at it and rotate top and bottom surfaces with your fingers. Look at the Tech-Tip and you will see this bearing in a cut-away which will make it more clear.

The replacement piece in the kit is a one piece ball roller bearing. Of course these kits have no instructions, so just wanted to see if there was any additions tips to install it corectly. Thanks for all the info! | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | The roller brg. is better. If it will fit use it. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | |
