If I put a spacer down on the button on the starter it will crank. I don't see any adjustments. looks like I need to make and adjustable rod right at the starter. | | |

On my 40 there was a way to adjust the contact plate on the starter. My truck has been running on 12 volts for over 30 years and I've had to do this several times to keep it working. The switch only slides a fraction of an inch but that should be enough to work. You also might try replacing the switch, as they do wearout from the arching when starting the truck.

.Some places even have it in stock!

They are wedge shaped and get worn on one side from use. By turning them around 180 degrees you have a brand new side to wear out yet. East to do and you already have the parts, (if someone hasn't alrady done it) so the cheapest too.
