The new metal/rubber/whisker assembly is supposed to be inserted into the division bar channel. That channel has a metal "insert" riveted to it. Does that insert (held in by about 8 rivets) come out first, or does the new assembly get crammed into it? I've searched for related topics but I can't find this specific one addressed. Thanks for any info. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | you mean the coil of semi rigid felt channel that fits around the side window or the rubber the goes on the vent side of the division bar? the rivets on the division bar are to hold the vent side rubber seal w/ the rigid metal core, not the felt channel - if you're replacing the vent seals, the rivets need to be drilled/cut out [there are replacements available from the dealers] so that old metal piece can be removed and that part done before the felt channel goes in, and it covers the rivets on the door glass side of the division bar - the 'whisker' part is the straight felt pieces that go along the bottom of the door window can see some of it at Alan\'s site Bill | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 345 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 345 | Red,
In the kit I bought, I have the semi rigid felt channel that lines the top and rear of the main window. I have the straight metal/rubber seal for the vent window to close on, I have the flexible rubber piece that goes around the vent window and I have the piece in question, which is a rigid guide for the front of the main window, that is supposed to fit into the channel of the division bar. The kit that I have provides the channel piece that you are talking about and it definitely will need to be riveted to the divider along with the short vertical vent strip on the other side.
