Hi there,
my first post in this forum, I drive radioless and I have always done so, I like to hear the engine. But I had/have a CB I brought from Holland and I'm trying to get it to work. While asking questions around here I run into this gentleman that gives me his old CB base station and a 18 foot antenna. How can I adjust the antenna, brand unknown, nothing movable on there.
Just adjust the cable lenght ? I do have a SWR meter, but the manual is long gone. Any hints are welcome.
Thanks
Richard

Truck'26,
welcome to the forum. I don't have a lot of experience with CB matters, especially with and 18 foot antenna. The one rig I did have in a car had a combined radio/CB antenna. What I do remember is that adjusting with the SWR meter gave the same results as adjusting for maximum noise with the squelch off.

Yep that's what we did in Holland too, looping the antenna cable in big or smaller loops will work sometimes too, but this thingy is going on the roof of the house, I hope the wind won't bring it down, and adjusting there is no fun. If I can get it installed, I have a Midland in the truck and that base station at home, so my wife can get a hold of me, when needed. And if I want to be "gone" then I just switch it off :)Neighbours can get a hold of me too, now I spent hours at home, waiting for that phone call, that never comes. I just thought radio=one way. CB=two way, there's a connection there smile
Thanks

Is it a radio station type, Ground Plane or Beams? For the Upright station type Ground Plane and Beams you have to adjust coaxe. For a whip you just cut until you get an SWR reading on channels 1,19,40 of 2 or less. Some Ground Plane types have an adjustable center mast.
