Has anybody seen the new Chevy truck radios? Check out the website "antiqueautomobileradio.com"
Their new radio is 12v, but it sure looks nice.

Yeah I seen 'em. Tempting and well thought out and I like the fact they occupy a smaller space yada yada but 'chu know what? At the end of the day it is not "right" to put that modern piece of hooey into a mostly if not entirely orig. truck. That just me talking about my truck and prefs. yours might be entirely different...me I like the sound of that buzzing radio and crackle between stations smile Bet someone with a souped up AD truck would dig it.

KC,
those are very nice looking radios. I would assume that the buttons are used for AM and FM? Are the buttons controlling switch contacts for the presets?

Also, with the old original style radios, I understand there is no room for the replacement electric style wipers. Would these units free up enough space?

Please explain how one of these radios would work in a 6 volt truck.
Can it be used with only one speaker (positioned below the radio as original)?

These are brand new radios' manufactured from the ground up, using the same replacement dial housings, knobs and buttons that folks are using to refurbish the original's. The preset buttons work just like they should, like truckernix said they actuate switches behind them. Inside the dash is another story the case is much smaller (About 10%) of the original's so that leave's plenty of room for electric wipers or AC (for the hotrod guys).
Brian for 6 volt trucks there's a voltage booster available to convert the 6 volts up to 12. As far as speakers go, the radio can be setup to handle 1,2 or 4 speakers. I have a 2 speaker panel setup to go in the stock speaker location under the radio in the center of the dash.

Nice Radios, but what will you hear?
I know you have lot`s of "special intrest" stations in the US. Here in Germany we only have

1. Mainstream
2. Classic
3. News

I want to hear Western Swing or old time Blue Grass comming out of that original radio, but they never heard of Bob Wills.

So I got me an modern $50 Radio with MP3-able CD Player (about 15 hours of mono music on one CD), mounted it in the glove box and connected it with the Knobs of the original 1941 Radio and a new speaker that sits in the old radio case.
Power comes from an 6 to 12 volt booster.

Et voila, turn that knob, "Sally Goodin" comes up and life is great with my old Chevy grin

Hey, Stovebold

Our stations here are pretty bad, too, because they keep changing formats all the time -- making money has become the inspiration rather than playing great stuff like Bob Wills.

Sigh ...

Anyway, I like what you did! It would be cool to see some pictures ... is there any way you can get a shot of Wills coming out of your speaker?
eek

Just for the record electric wipers will fit with the stock radio, I have them in my truck.
