In the interest of doing something with the hole in my dash, provided by some PO of my truck, I installed a Custom Autosound / USA-1 55 Chevy Stereo Cassette and Radio from Chevy Duty and made a faceplate of my own out of a piece of plywood:

Nice post and info Alan (as usual!). I've been looking for what to do about a radio for a few months. I'd considered a rebuilt original (w/AM, FM) but don't like the idea of just having knobs to change stations. Something about tooling down the road with both hands on the wheel (no power steering) and reaching over to change the station! So based on what you had previously written about the USA-1 it's what I'm planning on getting. I've asked Santa for a radio and speakers. Hopefully he's ignoring the times I've been naughty this past year!

LOL! I hope you get your radio, Larry -- Christmas is only a week away, too!

I'm real happy with this radio ... there are lots of presets (2 FM sets and 1 AM set) and since I can't find radio stations that don't continually change their format anymore, the cassette player is great to have! You can also hook up a CD player but I haven't bothered looking into that yet.

Also, the face plate mimics the old "look" of the old style dial with numbers.
