In a few days I will be posting some material from the 1947 to 1950 radio manual and also the 1951 to 1953 radio manual. If you have a problem with one of these radios, we can work towards trouble shooting it right here on the forum.

Welcome aboard, Fred! Peggy will get with you in a bit with rules for the faculty lounge, your dues payment for the Teachers' Union and the roster for monitoring the lunch room!

Truckernix,

Can't wait. I've got a radio in the dash of my truck that doesn't do anything other than look good.

Not even sure what it is... Might even be a Ford, for all I know.

Jed,
I see from your album that it is not the original radio for the truck. Does it fit the spacing of the holes in the dash?

If you can get the model number from it, I can suggest a source for the circuit diagram.

red58,
is your radio the GM radio for 1958? Maybe we can find a the circuit for it.

the 55-59 are alla same I think, and I do have the "Chevrolet Radio Service Supplement" to the service and shop manual - the thing that's stopped me even opening the case is finding parts anywhere near this backwater, or anything resembling a tube tester

actually if you want, I can scan the booklet and send it to ya

I am also hoping that my TF radio is easy to fix up. I figure it's got to need tubes and capacitors, and I'm hoping that is all!

I'm glad to see the new forum; thanks for volunteering, truckernix.

Truckernix,

The radio fits the dash like it belongs there, and looks great. I'm kinda thinking it maybe a late 40's Ford radio, as it kinda looks like something that may have been in that era's passenger cars.

The previous owner said it worked great up until a few months ago. Now nothing, no noise at all.

I'll gladly take any help you can provide to get some noise in the cab. Where would I find the model #?

This is nice. Thanks for starting this forum.

I also have a Task Force 55 2nd radio. My radio is in the garage. I have the supplement and have replaced the tubes and some other stuff. It doesn't work.

I am not sure what else to do to get it fixed.

Thanks again.

Well I am a bit overwhelmed and very glad to be here! It looks like we have two, maybe three TF radios to look after here.

Red58, if you could Email me the diagrams and the chassis layout, that would be great.

Am I right in assuming that the TF radio made a transition from 6 v to 12 v during the years 55 to 58?

I have the car version of the 55 on my bench and I think that this will help with the procedures.

Jed,
congratualtions, you have won the prize for our first radio question. The prize will be on the way shortly and I believe that it is a 6/12v test light. Thanks for starting the ball rolling!

Jed,
you may find a model number on the outside of the case, at the back or on the bottom. You could use a mirror and flashlight. Other details would be any names etc. on the dial face. Could you send me a closeup photo of the front by Email?

yes, Nix, the 5-9 are 12V same as the truck itself - I'll get on the scans - also have the basic unit of a 57 car radio, I'll send ya a pic of it to see if it's similar to yer 55

Truckernix,

I'll try and get that photo to you in the next couple of days.

The only information on the front of the radio is the word "Deluxe". It's across the top of the dial face. Kinda what made me think it might be Ford.

On a side note, you really had me wondering on the question... I had to go back up through the previous posts to try and figure out what question I had asked.

Can always use a testing light. Thanks!

Jed,
I think that "Deluxe" was a name used by one of the GM lines. In any event, there are not too many old radios that fit in the cutout of the AD dash and so this will be a breakthrough to learn the identity of yours.

Yeah, Congrats Jed! It's a really nice little test light, courtesy of another Stovebolter who sent us some neato stuff to give away.

It's so neat, I might just keep it for myself.... How about I send you my coffee can full of old rusty screws, nuts and bolts instead????

Just kidding -- it's on it's way.

grin

John,

With three old trucks, I think I already have had my fill of rusty screws, nuts and bolts. Guess I'll have to pass on your offer, but thanks!

Trucker, Now I'm even more curious to find out what it is. I'll get you those pictures before the weekend is over, so we can continue this journey.

Thanks again for doing this.

Just wanted to let everyone know I received the test light this last week. It's a nice one. Thanks.

Truckernix, with the holidays etc. I haven't had any time to pursue the radio question. Hoping to get some time next week to get back to you. Thanks for the patience.

Jed,
I think that I have found your radio on Ebay. It is identified as a 1947 pontiac radio.

What do you think?

Truckernix,

I think you answered the question. That certainly appears to be the radio that's sitting in my truck.

I appreciate your diligence in trying to determine what it was from, as I didn't think it would have been an original AD radio.

Might try and bid on that one, and see what I can do to make one good one out of the two. I do get a buzzing sound out of the one I have. Can't really tell yet, whether it's working or not, as the tuning buttons and knob don't appear to be working, the attena also leaves something to be desired, but at least it powers up and make some noise.

Thanks again for your help. I'll probably be picking your brain to see what I can do to make it work, now that we believe we know what it is.
