I have joined the forum, having recently bought a '39/'40 Chevy pickup. I say '39/'40 as it seems to contain parts from both.
My immediate question is on the bed. I seems that the bed that it came with is a '47-'53 style, with the front panel at 50" wide. From what I've read, a '39 front panel is 45 7/8" and a '40 - '46 panel is 48 3/4" wide. The '40 front panel is sometimes listed as different than a '41, but I don't know why.
Now, what are the differences in the side panels for '40 - '53, other than the change to the mounting hole pattern for the fenders in 1947? Can these '47 side panels be used on a '40 if the fender holes are changed? Some aftermarket bed suppliers list the same sides for '40 through '53, others don't. Same goes for the tailgates.
Can someone set me straight on bed panel interchangability?
Oh... how about the bed cross rails too??
Thanks.
