I'm not sure about the shifter. The only 283 I know about is a v8 that also was an option in '61. So you may be looking at a pretty stock apache.

And the shifter Patrick sells does work, but the arm needs bending some to clear the bench seat in the AD trucks, not sure about the Apache series. My friend put one in his 52 with a 250 hp 261. As for strength, he has burnt the tires going into 3rd gear.

It's an in-line 6 235 and yes I think it's a later 60's saginaw. Saginaws don't appear to have a sterling reputation for durability from these posts. I also don't want to blow the engine running it on the freeway. With these gear rations and a Rebuilt rearend with Patrick's 355:1 ring & pinion, can I cruise the freeway without worry?
