OK... How long should it take to magnaflux an engine block? A local machine shop has been sitting on my 235 since MLK day.

Its been so long I bet most of you had forgotten about my 235 engine problems. Well, I brought the block, head, and bottom end to this shop along with a '67 Poncho 400 block. This is the shop that PTE359 recommended.

The guy was patient about listening to what I wanted done: Mag both blocks for cracks. Check the head out and regrind the valves. Balance the 235's bottom end. If the 235 block was OK, decide what could be done about the cracked #1 main cap.

How long should it take for a small, busy shop to get around to my work? I understand that if you're nasty to the machinist, you'll go to the back of the line more than once. So I've been sweeter than cane syrup so far.

I'm starting to see the wisdom of Phat's hack & crate approach: Order the stuff, weld it in & drive the ****er.

Chip The problem with the 235 its allways goes on the back burner. Most people think if its a 235 its a parade truck, one that dont get used so....it goes to the back of the line. And no matter what people here say about shimming mains thats the way its done. So...its labor intensive. I dont let things sit,i always call 1 to 2 times a week or just plain show up for a progress report.I also tell them that the truck has got to be finished by a certain date before i get involved with a machine shop(May even lie and tell them its got to be at the body shop or??). When i show up i also ask if they need any money yet (i never really give them any till i see movement but it dont hurt to do it on friday afternoon when he makin out the payroll checks.) All and all you should toss the block with the cracked cap anyway.Lineboring a 235 just gets into a whole bunch of other problems.Boy oh boy when you do find a good machine shop dont lose em or b#tch about price. hacker Huh??? ;D My 235 was done in 3 weeks,in and out of the truck grin Go find yourself a good runnin 235 this weekend and a new machine shop.let him have the 235 block for a paper weight. grin Hey in the time you have waited you could have come out here to CT and got a good runnin 60,ooo 235 that here on the floor and gone home and installed it. wink Good luck just think if you were in the racin game and you dropped off the block on monday mornin needing it back wed nite so you could race.Thats how i found my guy.Toss the block buddy.

I doubt there is a shop around here that could line bore this motor anyway. Is it possible to line bore just the front main?? If not I've got to pitch this block.

PTE359 told me about a local yard that might have a few '54 cars w/ the engines still in 'em. (cursed side mounts) I might try to find this place saturday morning. Whats a fair price for a 235 in a junkyard?

thnx again guys,
chip
