I wanted to do a quick rebuild to stop some oil leaks and port for full oil flow. Have any of you fellas ever used these engine hones that you put on a drill? Will I end up getting the cylinders out of round. Of course I've used the brake cylinder hone so I know how they work, but that is a less important piece. The tool warehouse has a hone on sale for $15.00, but I don't know if that is even too cheap to look at. At the same time I plan to replace the rings, gaskets, and shine up all parts (crank and pistons, but should I replace the rods? I can't afford a full rebuild kit while doing other work too, but what do yall recomend I do while it is tore down? Any suggestions will be very appreciated. | | |

Yes, the hone will make your cylinders out of round. How much depends on the operator. Rods, check the wear pattern on the bearings. Heavy wear on bearing ends means rod stretch and they will need to be resized.
As for other things to do, replace the oil pump and go through the head checking valve springs and replacing the seals.

Most of the leaking gaskets can be replaced with engine in truck. 235s are easy engines to build, (did I just say that?) but it will cost money and take a good bit of time. All 235s leak oil, so unless its really pouring out of somewhere, just buy more oil.  Either way, we're here to help. chip
