Will a distributor from a 216 chevy fit on a 261?

It probably will but why? the 216 points and distributor cap are harder to find in the parts stores, atleast try to find one from a 235 you can get parts at most parts stores

The composition of the drive gear is differant because the cam composition is differant, and they need to match. Also, the 261 has a differant set of weights and springs. The breaker plates are completely interchangable- I put a dual point conversion kit for a 216 dist. in a 261 dist and it fit right in.
