Well its a motor, :p I know not the best one out there but its only 50 bucks! A buddy of mine is taking it out of his '86 Silverado. He is putting in one of those 350 H.O. crate engines. It dose run has about 120,000 miles on it so will probably rebild it. Smokes a little when you first start it. I just mainly want it use it to get on the road one day. Will replace it with a 350 or 383 stroker. My question is weather the 305 and the 350 are the same blocks just differant bore and stroke and heads? If I set my frame up for the 305 will it cause problems when I swap in the 350 block down the line? As always thanks! grin

I had a 305 in my '38 that had 99,000+ miles when I bought it for $500.00 and I replaced the timing chain [censored]. and a couple of gaskets and never regretted it . I put another 140,000 miles on it and it gave me 20-22mpg without an overdrive (2v carb) ! It should still run but I'm completely redoig my truck so a fresher motor is in it now . The 700r4 will bolt right up to both the 305 and 350 , externally the motors are the same so have at it - Motor mounts and everyhing .

.Basically the same engine, however, the 305 has different exhaust manifolds and the bolt-pattern on one end of each headis spaced differently than the other small-block family.
.Most everything else will bolt up no problem.

HEADS - HAVE A SMALLER CHAMBER 58CC? THAN A 350 WOULD NORMALY 76CC? (YOUR VALVE GUIDES ARE BAD, HENCE SMOKE AT START UP)

BLOCK - WILL HAVE A SMALLER BORE DIAMETER

CRANKSHAFT - SAME STROKE, DIFFERENT COUNTER WEIGHTS HAVE USED IT IN A 350 APPLICATION BEFORE.

CONNECTING RODS - SAME LENGTH, DITTO ON THE APPLICATION ALSO.

HARMONIC BALLANCER - DIFFERENT DIAMENTER, DIFFERENT TIMING LOCATION (I HAVE NO CLUE WHY).

WHOOPS BREAKS OVER, SEE YA (NO I'M NOT YELLING, AN ENGINEER ALWAYS USES UPPERCASE LETTERS)

Yes, officer it's licensed.
