A buddy of mine is taking it out of his '86 Silverado. He is putting in one of those 350 H.O. crate engines. It dose run has about 120,000 miles on it so will probably rebild it. Smokes a little when you first start it. I just mainly want it use it to get on the road one day. Will replace it with a 350 or 383 stroker. My question is weather the 305 and the 350 are the same blocks just differant bore and stroke and heads? If I set my frame up for the 305 will it cause problems when I swap in the 350 block down the line? As always thanks!

#31438 05/15/2002 10:54 PM | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 40 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 40 | I had a 305 in my '38 that had 99,000+ miles when I bought it for $500.00 and I replaced the timing chain [censored]. and a couple of gaskets and never regretted it . I put another 140,000 miles on it and it gave me 20-22mpg without an overdrive (2v carb) ! It should still run but I'm completely redoig my truck so a fresher motor is in it now . The 700r4 will bolt right up to both the 305 and 350 , externally the motors are the same so have at it - Motor mounts and everyhing . | | |

.Most everything else will bolt up no problem.
There is enough good in the worst of us and enough bad in the best of us that it does not behoove any of us to criticize the rest of us.

BLOCK - WILL HAVE A SMALLER BORE DIAMETER
CRANKSHAFT - SAME STROKE, DIFFERENT COUNTER WEIGHTS HAVE USED IT IN A 350 APPLICATION BEFORE.
CONNECTING RODS - SAME LENGTH, DITTO ON THE APPLICATION ALSO.
HARMONIC BALLANCER - DIFFERENT DIAMENTER, DIFFERENT TIMING LOCATION (I HAVE NO CLUE WHY).
WHOOPS BREAKS OVER, SEE YA (NO I'M NOT YELLING, AN ENGINEER ALWAYS USES UPPERCASE LETTERS)
