It is a long bed, (89 inch bed wood I believe and the thing that makes me think it might be a 3/4 or 1 ton is the fact that the rear leaf springs are huge...a real thick stack with a helper spring below that. Opinions? Thanks!  | | |

What about #'s on the hood sides? Door plate with GVW listed? Model/Vin there? Six lugs should be 1/2-ton, Yet my Big 2-ton GMC only has 6-lugs on it's 20" wheels, different than the 10-lugs on Chevs. Open driveline? Need more info I guess.  :rolleyes:

1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 34 Years. Now with a '61 261, 848 head, Rochester Monojet carb, SM420 4-speed, 4.10 rear, dual reservoir MC, Bendix up front, 235/85R16 tires, 12-volt w/alternator, electric wipers and a modern radio in the glove box.

Canadian GMCs came with 235s in em! Ah HA! Who knew? #1) Measure the wheelbase from center to center 116" = 1/2 ton 125" = 1/2 ton longbed or a 3/4 ton #2) Count the lugs on the wheels. six is a half ton regardless of wheelbase. 8 is 3/4 ton if 125.25" and a one ton if 137". #3) In Calif, they remove the Serial number ID plate usually. If it's there, post the serial number which will read something like: 101-24-P (or C or S) then "Z", then a series of numbers. #4) Use the GMC Serial Number Decoder on my website to break it down. | | |
