I am trying to find info on my truck,a 1942 1 ton chevy pickup that i'm restoring. I have had no problem locating parts but would like to know when it was made, orig. color, military or civilian, who owned it, etc.... The 9 digit vin doesn't seem to give me all the answers.Any help is appreciated

If you want to know all that info and more. Call GM and ask for customer service, tell them you want a "Restoration Package". They will send it to you free of charge! It has every option, color, wheel bases, serial number codes. Where your truck was made, every engineering speck. I couldn't believe it when I got it. They said it would take 4-6 weeks for shipping but it only took about 5 days.
I forgot the number but you can call any GM dealer and ask them for the 1-800 customer service number. When do you ever get something for free? Now go out there and take advantage of it.

I was very satisfied with the quantity and quality of information in the Resto Pack for my 50 Chevy truck. There have been several posts on this site about it. Do a search for "restoration package" and you should find the number or address. :p

STMFALCO, here is a number to call for the restoration package... 1-866-942-4368 ext-48576 and ask for Tim Kelly. The restoration package isn't going to give you the names of any previous owners or the orginial color. It will give you the colors that were used for that year and it will also give a list of standard equipment and options for that year.

while this is usually true, when you get to the war years, they lump them all together under 1942 even if it was assembled in 44 like mine was... I didn't have any trouble figureing this out from the vin plate and resources on this board though... let me see where I dug up the vin number lookup info...
