I have a 350 with a 4 bbl. quadrajet carb. and was wondering if anyone can tell me if the distributor is timed or full vacuum advance. I am installing a new Edelbrock carb. and need to know this so I can hook up to the correct vacuum port.
I spoke too soon. What distributor are you running on the 350? Points or HEI? Both have mechanical advance mechanisms, so the vacuum advance is supplemental and only works when you are "cruising" down the highway at part throttle. At WOT it wouldn't work anyway, there's no vacuum at the port and at idle it's unnecessary; so I still say timed
BTW, what's wrong with a Q-Jet? If you don't want it, send it to me!
Thanks gmc, it is a points distributor. There is nothing wrong with a quadrajet, I am in the process of installing a new engine in my truck and should be finished today. I decided to put on a new Edelbrock aluminum intake with an Edelbrock 4 bbl. carb. I will be posting pics of the engine after it is finished, so be looking for my post.
