Will a 409 fit in to a pre 58 pick up? Specifically a 55/56/57. Has anyone done one or know of anyone with similar demented thoughts?

I do believe there is enough room in the 55 2ndseries and up.Sounds like a cool old beast.

Thanks for the reply. It was just a thought as a friend out here had a 55 210 a 409 that was suppose to go together but never did and has since been sold. Im looking for my first truck (refer to wanted in the swap meet)and was wondering what was possible. If anybody is looking for a 46 Stylemaster ute I know of one out here that has been sheded since the 70's. I havent seen it as its 5 hours away but apparently it ran when parked and is all original. I think the guy said the fenders are off but Id have to check that. Just remember either you guys drive on the wrong side of the road or we do as it is right hand drive. The body is australian made (Holden). If anybody is real interested I could call the guy again and see if he's got an email address. He had it advertised for $3500 Australian dollars which are a bit like pesos these days (around 55c = $1 Aus)Thanks and Im stoked to have found this site. Keep an eye out for the new pontiac GTO's and ElCominos. They are Aussie made with chev 350's. Strange days huh.

Panhead, I know a guy who has a 56 Chevy truck with a 409 under the hood.I have seen the truck several times at the annual Wendall Mass. GM truck meet.He says the engine dropped right in with the stock cast iron manifolds,his truck has the stock front steering.

Thanks Tony. Any idea how I can contact him. Id love to talk to someone who's been there done that. Ive just emailed a couple of guys who had 409's in the swap meet pages. All I need now is to find a truck, preferably in California. Is there a good reference guide I should obtain in regards to brake upgrades etc? This will be my first project
