We were going to take the body and put it on my wagoneer frame, but once we saw the truck in person, we just couldnt do it to it! Its a longbed 1/2 ton. So.. we will put the amc 401 (strong aint the word for it) with a (advance adapter)th-400 chevy trans into the ole gal. Any advice (cuz you guys are good!)on this set up? and any pointers will be greatly appreciated. This should be a sleeper extraordinaire lol! Thanks in advance gang.

Chevy did not make a longbed 1/2 ton until the Task Force trucks 55-second series. Sorry - I just saw your other post stating it's a GMC. Good luck with it.

TH400 is a good tranny, just don't get it hot and keep the fluid level up. I don't know about AMC engines. Are you going to put an IFS in? Makes it easier to drop in a V8, and really helps the driveability.

Say what are you doing with the original drive train?
Let me know next time you are down south here and I will show you my Truck that I pulled out MO.

I ran them through the 60's and 70's starting with a 56 Nash Ambassador with the 352 Packard engine. The 290 through 401 engines are all the same size, like smallblock Chevvies. The 390 was the best of the bunch, but also the hardest to find. I built up a hotrod 360 for my nephew, in a Hornet station wagon, that would smoke Corvettes! If you're planning to modify the engine, a Comp Cams High Energy 260 cam will really turn it on. Jerry

Brian, I know Jerry, he was very kewl to work with when you needed a part. Very knowledgeable. I will look ya up. The original drive train is going to be sold. its gonna need rebuilding for sure. I think the 401 with the dogleg heads is much stouter and quiker than the 390 but thats my opinion. lol. I know that everyone and his brother wants to find one. They are getting hard to ind . They come with forged crank and rods! I will post a pic as soon as I can. Happy wrenchin guys! Oh thanks for the 400 tip too.
