Okay, first of all, Thaks a mill to all of you who helped with my questions. (sometimes even my dumb ones)!
Second, I've only even seen my truck a couple of times, asking questions from memory. Well my wife and I finally paid it in full this morning. (YAHOOOO). Here's the skinny....
1956 truck, stake & platform Model 424V Army.
Gross hp 155@3600rpm, net hp 138@3400 rpm.
GMC, date of delivery 1-56
GVW 21000# max, combined 34000 max
Max payload almost 15000.
12-volt, single rear axle(not split), 14foot bed.

Big 'un huh? We intend utilitarian use for it, but who knows in the future.

So here's some more info...
Block castings look like this(below exhaust man.)
A
CWG could be CWC
GMC1 2324004 (L215 on a small plate)
According to Inliners, this would be civilian eng with side mounts 56 to 62. Mine has front mounts, which would be 21939890 52 to 54 civilian. They show military as 2194202. I believe inliners is mistaken, because my vehicle IS ex-military and IS 1956 and IS front-mount 302...
Could my engine have been replaced thou touted as original, maybe. But the front mounts are original to the vehicle. What do you folks think about this???????
Also, what does the "L215" mean on that small plate? it is attached by two small screws I think.
Wish I had a digital camera to show you.

Just wanted to mention that the dash plate also mentions ordnance, so this truck may have carried bomb & such?
Also, the firing order was hooked up as 1-2-3-4-5-6 {obviously not correct}. I found TDC on compression stroke of #1 cylinder first, & static timed it at "0". Then I watched the valves operate to find the rest: 1-5-3-6-2-4. Locking fuel cap without key prevented a fillup, but I ran a "tank" from a mower directly to the fuel filter inlet. The ignition switch provides intermittent power to the coil, so I ran a temporary lead to the resistor and...
SHE FIRED UP IN ABOUT 3 SECONDS WITHOUT EVEN PRIMING 'ER!!!!!
Anyway, this was after a tow home(no brakes whatsoever) after driveline disconnect. Told the driver not to go over 45mph. At work I've built parts for the guy's rig, so he knocked off about 1/4 of the fee (2 hours = 1-1/2) :> Only $120 for a Sunday tow from a mid-size wrecker!

If I understand your description, what you have is a single axle truck. The 302 that I got out of a '52 Army 6x6 had heavy cast iron side mounts, and the truck had dual rear axles and a 24v electrical system. I'll have to check a couple of blocks for casting #'s.

kinky6...
Yes it's a single axle rear, but it's a 1956 with front mounts on the 302. Absolutely no signs of any other setup on the frame, appears original. But the placard on the dash describes it as ARMY. Hence the question of whether it might be a one-off. Might be a freak of GMC nature....

I work six days a week & own my house, so there's not much time overall. But i got a little more done. Checked all u-joints & drivelines, reconnect driveline, detailed inspection of the frame. So far all's good. I'll keep updating for those who are interested in the subjuct.
