#28486 04/12/2002 7:20 PM | Joined: Apr 2000 Posts: 247 Member | | Member Joined: Apr 2000 Posts: 247 | I seem to remember there was a good motor shop in Spokane (a little far, but transports run from Seattle daily) - it's name was something like "The Old Engine Shop"- sorry I can't remember the specific name. They do a lot of work on really old motors, including fabrication of parts that no longer exist. They have rebuilt steam motors, pump engines, etc. from the 1800's. They are very familiar with babbit engines and can repour babbit in rods. I realize your motor isn't quite that old, but the point is they can do a good job. | | |

thanks for the input on the engine shop, my 292 is a 68 edition I dont know if vintage engine would work. Might give them a call in the 216 though.

The folks that live up the street from me recommended them, and they run an old style front engined dragster. Said take it down, tell them what you wanted done, check mics, and it would be done right. I'm doing some weird stuff with long rods and short pistons and havent got to the machine shop yet, but will go there first. BTW the kid up the street got a big writeup in the paper for his ole style dragster.

Isn't driving one of these how "Big Daddy" Don Garlits lost part of his foot? I'm probably wrong about this, it's my specialty  .

Thanks for the tip on Lester's, increased compression, mild cam, intake and exhaust up grades are what I was thinking fot the engine.
Still trying to figure out the transmission, drive line and rear suspension. I was given a '80 Camaro rear that is the right width, it needs some internal work (bearings, etc). I figure to get the truck running and clean will cost about $7K to $10K. Cooler looking truck and I can do the work myself.
