My 292 sat up for just over a year before I stuffed it into the truck. When I put it in, I just filled up the various kinds of goo and ran it. When I decided to change the fan spacer (namely to remove it) I had to dump out the antifreeze into one of those big catch basins. Well, it were rusty, but I didn't think that much of it. Just ran it through a filter before puttin it back in.

Today decided, hmmm....hoses look questionable. When I pulled em off to replace with new ones (and here it was drive truck to shop, and pull hoses off wall until you had something that matched or was close to matching due to 1) truck age and 2) the fact I have a 292 instead of 230) and did the catch all again - the antifreeze goo/water was really stinky.

This time got the garden hose and ran water through the thing until it ran clean. Then put in anti-rust goo, then refilled with anti-freeze goo.

Save yerselves a few $. When you first test run 'trusty', go ahead and flush the cooling system first, then put in the good stuff. wink

I did do the oil system with Risolone right after I got engine workin. Last oil changer put on oil filter with impact wrench. My standard filter wrench bent trying to get it off! eek

Then I got a band wrench that fits on 3/8 drive and all it took was a 4 ft cheater to get it off, and that was AFTER I warmed up the truck! Tha dopes... What I did was change just the oil first time, made sure it wasn't going to leak and blow oil, then Risolone'd it, then gorilla mode on the filter to remove. And new oil and new filter. The oil in there was about 3 hours old, and the Risolone treatment knocked out a lot of filth as the oil came out black. Eeeewwwwww....

Truck runs good now though - no smoke. smile
