I have a front u joint that needs replacing on a 3/4 ton GMC. I am having a heck of a time finding a replacement. It is a two peice driveshaft with a 'housing ball' on the back of the transmission. Series 150-22. This truck used to have a hydra-matic but the 228 engine was pulled out and a 235 replaced it with a sm420 trans. It appears to have a front u joint with 'wings' on two of the bearings to attach the bearings with bolts to the transmission yoke and wires that helps to hold the other two caps in place on the drive shaft yoke.
I've owned this truck for almost a year and have only driven it about three miles. The spring weather is to nice not to drive it. I need help finding a front u joint. No local parts store has one, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Rick

Rick, Give a call to Jim Carter Antique truck parts, 1 800 862-1913. Only snag is which part on your truck are from the Chevy and which are GMC? Also you may try the classified section on this site. Also you may try NAPA.
Best of luck
Jim

Jim, Thanks for the reply. I was wondering where the Chevy left off and the GMC started on the drivetrain. The '47-'54 GMC Maintenance Manual I have shows it as a Series 150-22. I am not sure if there is a Chevy equivalent or not.
I will give a few calls from your suggestions and let you know how it turns out. Already tried NAPA and their books do not go back that far. You know how it goes, it couldn't be that easy.
Thanks again!
Rick

53 GMConceived,

Off your topic but Janesville is close to Fort Atkinson (we lived 3 years in Whitewater). Many of our trucks were built at the Janesville plant, including mine.

Are there any Janesville plant old timers still around who could answer some how and why questions?

Hi Wally,
I've been through the Janesville Assembly Plant a few times. It's quiet the place. My GMC originally came from the St. Louis Plant. I brought it back from a small town by Branson, MO last June and have been working on it whenever I can find the time. The weather is finally nice enough to get it on the road and the u-joint started pounding. I think my truck is like my kids, it needs attention on it's terms not mine. smile

Is it the same as 41-46 3/4 ton? Mine had a two piece driveshaft that I pulled out intact and working if you need some parts

Thanks for the responses. The u joint has been located and hopefully we'll be on the road soon. This is a great bulletin board!
