Does anyone know about what is available for cams for the 235. I've seen Howards cams and talked to Patrick's. Does Isky, Edelbrock, etc.. grind cams for these anymore at a reasonable price? Or is Howards cams the only and best?

Thanks,

Brent grin

Patricks antique cars sells at least 3 different grinds- The howard m4f (most common), and two other grinds.

Clifford sells a 260M cam, and its pretty radical, choppy idle. Not much power below 1800 RPM, but will pull on the top end until the motor blows. I used to run one in a 235, but I overrevved it and blew it up.

I'm running the M4F cam in my new cammed-n-jammed 235, and I like it a lot. Your results may vary. I think a cam with more duration than the m4F, which is around 210, will require increased compression to retain low end power.

You can't go wrong with Patricks M4F. When I checked a few years ago, he had the best prices and knows his cams. Also, I learned that if you buy the cam and lifter package, the lifters came cheaper than I could buy locally at jobber price.

Thanks for the input, What I'm trying to do is hop it up a little while I have it out. New cam, Hone, re-ring and a new gasket set. Down the road, Fenton headers and dual carbs. Has anyone split a stock exhaust manifold?

Thanks,

Brent

Bingo on this thread. I have a running but pos 235 that I would like to hop up with a rebuild. I'm am asking about the potential of going bigger bore and with premium pistons, mildish cam, port/polish heads, big valves, etc. Will this motor run on premium unleaded if the compression is jumped to, say, 8.5:1? Do you guys consider fuel injection as option for the 235 or too expensive? I am reseaching the idea of keeping my old motor over the v8 or 261 option. At least now I see a few folks upgrading the 235, so it can be done. Why don't you guys go to the 261 (full flow) as it was recommended by others to me?

The reason I picked the 235 is cost and availability. I want under 500 bucks in my low cost build. Engine 125 cam 140 gaskets and rings around 100. New cam gear set 30. It will probably end up more than that. but... with three kids and a one income household every penny counts. My wife does not like it when I tell her to get a second job! grin HA HA
